One aspect that makes criminal law unique is that it intersects with other social issues that impact the lives of Canadians every day. When you hire me you are getting a criminal defence lawyer who has a unique understanding and appreciation of how our criminal justice system intersect with social issues such as mental health, addiction, poverty, and cultural background and ethnicity. Prior to attending law school I enjoyed employment with a mental health agency here in Toronto, and I was also employed by the Hamilton Children’s Aid Society.

The practice of criminal law requires not only an ability to understand and apply the law to a specific set of facts, but it also requires a set of strong interpersonal skills. Criminal defence lawyers are in constant communication with clients, Assistant Crown Attorney’s, Judges, court administration staff, and police officers. A criminal defence lawyer’s ability to communicate effectively with all parties involved is essential to achieving the best possible result for each client. Through the combined experience and education in social work and the law, I have developed a unique set of communication skills that are essential to advocating successfully on your behalf, while also working effectively and professionally with all parties involved in our criminal justice system.
